If you are involved with the the world of dyslexia and its solutions, you will hear the term Orton Gillingham. It is actually not a curriculum, but instead a methodology of teaching that was created by two people...Samuel Orton and Anna Gillingham.
The Orton Gillingham method was created as a solution to scientific evidence that dyslexia was one of the reasons that children were having difficulty reading and writing in 1925.
It is a multisensory phonics technique that integrates visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile learning strategies. The O-G method is often used in one-on-one instruction, but it can also be used in small groups or classrooms.
Currently, there are a number of programs that are based in the Orton-Gillingham method, all having some variety in how the materials are taught. Some of the best programs not only use multi-sensory avenues but are structured as well.
It is beneficial to find a tutor or a program that provides these excellent components that over time can teach/reteach children in a way that allows the brain to absorb and understand this information.
